Found an article talking about a nonprofit start up in LA. The founder, Gary Michelson, M.D. formed Twenty Million Minds Foundation to create and provide for the use of a comprehensive, digital, higher education textbook library in an open architecture platform to mitigate students’ expenses and to eventually replace the costly textbooks currently in use.
Now, I have seen other companies like Inkling and Kno who are already creating apps to push digital textbooks.
Every year, a new batch of wide-eyed youngsters flocks to college, fresh from high school glory. Some will arrive with apprehension, while others come in with guns blazing. Today I had a couple of experiences that set me thinking about my own high school career. First, I subbed in another teacher’s class for one period. To break up the monotony of grading I scanned a textbook and some review guides, and I was soon filled with longing and the wish that my teachers in high school challenged me more.
